The Boxer is a highly energetic and playful companion. This wonderful breed is known for his friendly disposition as well as its ability to adapt to the immediate family. The Boxer is excellent with children although it has been known to have some dominance issues when it comes to other dogs. Female boxers will often challenge other dogs of the same gender. The boxer loves to use his front paws with just about everything he does. Some might say, hence the name Boxer. Boxers also love to jump and stand with paws on their human companions. Teach your Boxer not to stand with his paws on the chest of your guests by simply giving him a gentile bump to the chest with your knee each time he does it. Follow that with a firm, "No!" and he will soon realize that he is the cause of his own discomfort. |

Boxers are very smart and very easily potty trained. Crate training is recommended but sometimes, not necessary. The Boxer will remain playful throughout his entire life of 9-12 years.
Be very careful when choosing a new Boxer puppy for your family. White Boxers are prone to deafness and should not be bred. Boxers are also prone to skin irritations and mange. Heart problems and tumors are also a slightly less than common downfall of the breed.

 | Tanner is my 4 year old purebred white Boxer. He is a lovely, friendly but very protective companion. He does everything with me. They are sometimes put down due to the fact that white Boxers are prone to deafness. So Tanner is not registered. The only problem with getting him registered is that he is white but he is like the brother that I never had. In fact... he is a very good listener!

My name is Jennifer Reyes and I live in Daytona Florida.
My husband and I recently purchased a new home. After the closing, Robert thought it would be nice to surprise myself and our three children with a new Boxer puppy. It's been 3 years and we just adore Roscoe as if he were one of our children. He is very smart and playful. My son is now 10 years old and Roscoe is his best friend. I allow our children to play outside all day as long as Roscoe is outside with them. He is very keen and alert. He will stop whatever he is doing to stare at any stranger or anyone who may walk too close to our fenced-in yard. I don't think he would bite unless he absolutely had to but he would definitely alert us to any situation in which he feels uncomfortable. I trust Roscoe and I don't know what we would do without him. I am writing this to let anyone who has children know how wonderful our dog has been. If you're considering a Boxer, I say go for it.

Are they really ankle biters?
Technically, they are ankle biters and that is not an insult. In fact, that is a great accomplishment when the average Chihuahua stands just 7 inches tall. But try telling that to the Chihuahua. That may be the only time you will see those bat-like ears flop or turn away in an attempt to ignore the ridiculous notion that he is indeed a Chihuahua. With the heart of a Rottweiler, the Chihuahua has growled his way into our hearts although breezing past the giant hands of most children ranging in age 2-12. The Chihuahua has earned a reputation of barking and biting forcing him to share the "bad rap" blanket with the notorious American Pit Bull Terrier. Although confrontational by nature, the Chihuahua is an excellent choice. Most people choose their pet but the Chihuahua chooses his owner. This huge-hearted dog will bond with a particular member of the family while displaying 95% loyalty to the other members of the family. This makes the Chihuahua a great choice for the elderly or anyone who may live alone. If you are lazy, your Chihuahua can get plenty of exercise in the huge living room of your one bedroom apartment. The breed varies in size, shape, color, price, disposition and attitude. Possibly the most versatile breed to ever touch the American heart. All the way from Chihuahua Mexico, these little guys have had no problems crossing the border and into the big-time. Taco Bell, Paris Hilton, Ren (& Stimpy) just to name a few.
So when you hear someone say, "Oh those little ankle-biters!" or "They're so yippy!" Try to make them understand that the Chihuahua does it all from the core of loyalty which each Chihuahua possesses. They will bite to protect the family they love. It's not their fault if it happens to be an ankle bite.

I read your article about Chihuahuas (Ankle Biters) and I felt as though you had came to my home and met my dog Chino. Chino is the sweetest dog I could have ever asked for but he does have his moments. As described in your article, he is aggressive towards strangers and he isn't fond of children. I got him from a breeder in South Carolina when I lived there for the summer 3 years ago. He was only 6 weeks old and he has been by my side ever since. He is possibly the pickiest animal to ever walk the face of the earth and his love for peanuts and apple skins is probably not the best diet for him but it's too late. We just adore Chino and we think he is very happy with us.
Thanks for your organization You guys are great at what you do Daniel Moss Portland, OR

The Certified Purebred Database has registered tons of Pugs over the years. The growing popularity of the pug most likely comes from its unique disposition and her smaller stature which makes her a perfect apartment dog. Pugs have personality and they are actually funny! A Pug is a breed which knows exactly what she wants to do. The Pug also knows what you want her to do but sometimes... she chooses not to do it. Some of the phrases that will become familiar to your pug are as follows:
"Stop It" "Get off the couch!" "Why are you barking? There isn't anyone there!"
The pug is known to adapt to the personality of her human companion. If the humans lay around the house all day, just relaxing you will find the Pug doing the same. If you like to get up at 6 am and go for a walk then jump directly into another activity, your pug will gladly be by your side. Pugs get excited! They are known to do wacky things such chase their tail when excited, try to play with other dogs on the television and run in circles. Although Pugs are sometimes heavy breathers and can keep you up at night with some heavy snoring and occasional flatulence, this great breed is a good choice for all families.

 | We have 2 Pugs, Yoda and Missy. I have never owned 2 dogs at the same time until we adopted Yoda when he was just 6 weeks old. A few months later, we figured that he could use a playmate so I searched the classifieds and came across a female Pug around his age. Missy came into our home when she was 4 months old.
My story is:
Yoda, doesn't like when anyone pets Missy! Even calling her name in a playful voice sets him off. He gets jealous and he will drop whatever he is into and run to intervene whenever anyone pets Missy. He will chase his tail at full speed when the situation gets him really frustrated. The funny thing about the situation is that Missy will only show affection to us when Yoda isn't looking!
We love our 2 Pugs. They are both registered with your registry. They act like brother and little sister but thanks to your organization, I am sure they're not.

It seems as though California has a love for animals which stretches far and beyond that of any other American territory. Even leading Florida but not by much. Response to the unique service that the CPD offers for our members in California has been overwhelming. Maybe it has something to do with the great weather in the far west. Maybe it is the status that our society loves to uphold in the form of our four legged friends. These are some interesting statistics that I have discovered during my research:
52 million dogs live in 35 million US households. Each year, owners acquire about 7.3 million dogs, including 5.8 million puppies from pet stores and breeders, one million dogs from animal shelters, and 500,000 as adult strays or previously owned pets.
Puppies come from 3.3 percent of dog-owning households as follows:
Show breeders, 1.8 million (31 percent);
Amateur breeders, 1.3 million (23 percent);
Mixed breeds, 2.6 million (46 percent).
Pet stores, 500,000 (7 percent)
Shelters
About four million dogs enter shelters each year:
400,000 puppies from households that produce litters but do not place the pups in new homes.
Strays, about 2.2 million
Reclaimed by their owners, about 600,000, (leaving 1.6 million strays available for adoption).
Owner surrenders, About 1.8 million P. A.,

Faith
Faith is an incredible dog. She was born just before Christmas in 2002. She was born to a mother dog, believed to be nearly full blooded Chinese Chow Chow, along with several other siblings. Faith wasn't the only puppy born with deformities however, Faith was the only puppy with deformities to survive.
Princess rejected Faith's because she knew instinctively that Faith was unable to battle the other puppies for a place to feed. Faith was weak, small and runtish.
Faith had 3 actual legs, but the left front leg was badly deformed, placed backward, upside down, and it had more toes on it than normal dog legs. The leg was removed when she was 7 months old when it began to atrophy. People ask if it was easy to teach Faith to walk upright... the answer is NO!

The Bull Terrier
The Boisterous Bull Terrier is not ideal for a first-time dog owner. The Bull Terrier is a dog which will demand lots of attention. They enjoy human contact and they make very good companions for children. They have a protective instinct which is backed-up by the Bull Terrier's will to please his owner. | |
 | What happened to Spuds Mackenzie?
In 1992, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, charged that Anheuser-Busch was pitching their ads to children by using the famous Bull Terrier. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) found no evidence to support that allegation but the ads were dropped.
Spuds died of kidney failure on May 31, 1993 in North Riverside, Illinois at age 10. |
 | The Bull Terrier is an awesome dog. My boy is brindle and white and he is very playful. He sleeps with me, takes showers with me and I usually bring him everywhere I go, I even bring him to work. Aside from some bad eating habits such as chewing gum for hours and drinking from the toilet bowl whenever he gets a chance, he has been wonderful. I live alone and Nikko is my best buddy. Just thought I tell a little bout him.

I am the new, proud owner of a solid white Bull Terrier. She can be very well behaved and loves my kids to death. However, she is just like have another kid in the house. As soon as i pick up her toys and put them in her toy box, just like a kid, she goes and drags them right back and then goes and lays down. I definitely do not recommend this breed for just anyone. They can be a handful at times and do require time and training. Otherwise, they will get board and chew on things in your house. I found that out when we left her in the house by herself for too long one day... LOL

The Labrador is still #1
The CPD has more Labrador Retrievers registered than any other breed. This tells us not only of the dog's ability to reproduce and thrive, but to be accepted and in fact, chosen by so many dog lovers. The dog's intelligence and gentile but sturdy disposition and unmatched loyalty makes him a great choice for the kids. Picking from black, yellow, or mocha chocolate makes the Labrador that much more irresistible. Part of the Labrador's personality is to play and chew. At the playful age of 6 months, a Labrador can do his fair share of damage if he gets bored. Though easily trained, Labradors are not great guard dogs. However, they can be referred to as great watch dogs.
They retrieve, they hunt, they find hidden drugs, locate trapped victims of full scale disasters, detect corpses, guide the blind, detect sicknesses within humans before they are diagnosed, watch over your property, star in all of the latest "cute-puppy" comercials, swim, jog, protect and still find time to be your kid's best friend.
What more can you ask for?

My name is Kent Blackwood and I live in Valdosta, GA. My family has bee raising Labradors for the past 28 years. I would never consider another breed. I love all dogs but my Labs are all family and I mean that literally. I still have the bloodlines that my Grandfather started with back in 1980. Labs are something special and there aren't enough words to describe the relationship that you can build with a Lab. I have 12 Labradors, no cages and we have special names for each one of them and my sister's 8 as well. We just love Labradors and your organization has made things a bit easier over the past few years.
Thanks, K. Blackwood Valdosta, GA

Why does the Yorshire Terrier cost $850?
There is Yorkie craze in the United States. Sometimes there will be a quick craze for a particular breed. These fads usually last about a year or so. Just ask the Puggle, the Labradoodle and the Chihuahuas after Paris Hilton and Tinkerbell. Somehow, the Yorkshire Terrier has found a way to yap his way right into the hearts of young American women for the past 5 years. Maybe it's the grooming that some of these women love to perform. Maybe some women love to have a bit of jealousy around the house. In which case, the Yorkie may pick up the slack. The Yorkshire can be a handful depending on what type of friend you are to your stubborn Yorkie. If you allow your Yorkie to take control of you or your home... she will. Expect behavior problems with your Yorkshire if you do not provide an affective training program. So why is your next Yorkie going to cost you at least $500? If Beauty is measured in dollars and cents... you will definitely get your money's worth... but you may balance things out with the cost of the Advil.

The Newfoundland does it all
The Newfoundland is a great dog. A big boy with an awesome temperament. Your Newfoundland is playful with whoever he is familiar with but he tends to be a bit less welcoming of strangers. He loves water but tends to drool a bit when drinking it. Train your Newfoundland with a firm voice. This breed is loving and sensitive. One of the best personalities for children. When comparing the Newfoundland to the Labrador Retriever, one cannot help but to be struck by the similarities. Maybe the Labrador has the popular vote but that seems to be about all. The Newfoundland is a big boy who eats a lot and may develop hip dysplasia as he gains weight. A great choice for families with property, water-filled, fun adventures and maybe a few children. Teach the children how to brush their Newfoundland because his thick coat will demand a quick brushing about twice each week. A great breed and a unique style dog to share your home with.

Hello all,
I bought my 2 year old a German shepherd for Easter since she has always had a dog and we found ourselves without one for a period of time. My daughter seemed very lost until we found Bear. I was unsure about getting him because he did not come with papers. Although I was able to tell that both, mom and dad were full blooded, I could not make up my mind between the two males that they had available so I let my daughter make the choice. Ever since then, they have been stuck at the hip! He does not care what she does to him as long as it is her. A true story of Best Friends Forever. Now thanks to CPD, I was able to get him registered and papered.
